Wairarapa Supergrans 2.4

SuperGrans is a registered Charitable Trust operating in nine different areas of New Zealand. It began in Lower Hutt in October 1994 and in Wairarapa, from the Carterton Community Centre in 1997. A similar programme is run in Australia, known as "SuperGrands" based in Canberra and in the UK it is known as "Ask Mum". SuperGrans Aotearoa Inc is the umbrella group of the organisation in New Zealand to which branches are affiliated. Aotearoa is staffed by a permanent employee and has responsibility, through its members, for the direction of the group. SuperGrans is a group of experienced and knowledgeable people offering practical tuition in a vast range of skills including household management, meal planning, cooking, budgeting, handyman skills and it offers an advocacy servbice to those who have problems communicating with authority. SuperGran’s goal through this “one on one” mentoring and demonstration, is to provide clients and their families with further knowledge that can assist in improving the family’s wellbeing and self esteem.
Structure & Workings
•The client makes contact or is referred to the nearest Branch
•Co-ordinator will visit the client in their home or some other location of the client's choice to discuss with them what is required
•A programme is prepared and a likely compatible Supergran volunteer is assigned
•The Supergran will make contact with the client to arrange a visit(s)
•Co-ordinator will from time to time contact clients to ensure the programme is progressing to everybody’s satisfaction
